The Skinny: I was surfing the net looking for places to eat with a few of my friends. I came across this place called Buldogis. I read an article saying that the hot dogs were like the ones from LA’s food truck Kogi. I was SO excited that this place is right by my house and I finally get to try Korean infused hot dogs. I love hot dogs & Korean food so this was a definite treat. I walked in and it was like walking into a subway, but with the smell of bulgogi cooking in the air. I ordered the Buckeye dog, Bulgogi beef dog & angry fries. I wasn’t that hungry but definitely had to try a bit of it all and save the rest for lunch the next day. It took about 15 minutes for my food to be ready for take-out which I’m fine with because that just means everything is made fresh and to order. As much as I loved it, it’s not something I can eat every day. The best part of it all is that the hot dogs are 5 bucks. You definitely get a bang for your buck here.
The Good: The Buckeye dog is delicious!!! It starts off with 100% beef frank with pork belly bacon, corn relish, cheddar & garlic mayo on top. Who can resist?! The Beef bulgogi dog is good too, but it was just way too much meat for me. It was topped with asian slaw (carrots & radish), green onions, sesame seeds, bulgogi mayo. I definitely needed a fork to finish this the next day. I think this dog would probably be better on top of rice.
The Bad: The Angry fries. It’s not really a bad, but just not something I’d order again. It was good for 2-3 bites, but then it was just too much. One order is huge! It’s sweet potato fries topped with spicy pork bulgogis, kimchi, give cheese blend, fried egg, green onions & jalapenos. Your behind will be angry at you after you eat it lol!
Would you come back again? Yes I will, I saw a euro special on their menu I’d like to try. I don’t think I’d order so much food again though. I do love that buckeye dog though.

The Skinny: After a four game winning streak on the road in a tight race to make it into the NHL playoffs, the LA Kings are back home at the Staple Center. Everyone was dressed in green because of St. Patty’s day and for 25 bucks, I got to watch the Kings get shut out by a team that lost the previous night. But hey, at least I was in the box seat area that has it’s own open bar.
Kike’s is a taco spot that’s in a parking lot on 2nd St & Beaudry Ave. It started off as small street stall with just a fire pit, lawn chairs and tables. Then years after good fortune and loyal customers, they got enough money saved up to buy a truck. But accordingly to Spreewell of Ramen + Tacos, there was a fallout between the workers and now there are two different locations not to far from each other.
The High: I was at the Staple Center and I got to watch the Kings lose while sipping on Jameson, nibbling on Staple Center bar food, and saw some old roller and ice hockey teammates from my High School years.
After the game, some of us went to Kike’s Taco Truck and from there I ordered the Buche. Of all the ones I had before, Kike’s version was actually the cleanest tasting one so far. Texturally, it was perfect, like tender calamari. And because of a mix up order, the sweet girl working by herself in the truck, gave me an extra one for free. So for only 4 bucks, I technically only paid for 3 tacos and a can of Fanta Pineapple. Ramen+Tacos guy Spreewell and a cousin of mine who were both there, ordered the Pastor and Carne Asada. They were both happy with their selections as they talked about stories that will only stay out of Vegas for that moment in time.
The Low: The Kings lost and while I have stopped following them since the addition of purple in their jersey colors, the new owner, and players being 10 years younger than me….it was still a bummer. Also, the cooks at Staple Center must be getting lazier and their waiters walking on cruise control. We ordered Chicken Wings, but they came out lukewarm. The whole Organic White Carrots that came with them still had that unclean outer layer on. Along with those wings was a “where’s the Pulled Pork?”….Quesadilla. No bueno!
As for the Buche Taco, while texturally it was good, it was kind of bland. The Salsa Verde didn’t really add much to it either, it was just cold.
Would you come back again? Yes, just because the Buche was lacking in seasoning doesn’t mean their other stuff are too. They also have sweet breads (throat glands), something I’ve grown to like after trying them at King Taco.

The Skinny: El Gallito is a taco truck that can be found almost anywhere in Los Angeles. The one I went to was on Pacific Coast Highway in Lomita and on Washington Blvd near Culver City. Taco Sinaloa #3 is a sit-down restaurant in Torrance which I found on Yelp. Reviewers recommended the Pastor, so I got that along with their Buche (pig stomache), which is my favorite meat of choice. So I got the Buche at El Gallito’s, along with their Carnitas and the little more expensive Tripas.
The High: El Gallito’s Buche and Tripas were great, both texturally and in flavor. The Tripas were chewy and the amount of Buche was plentiful. I just wish the Tripas were a bit crispy around the edges.
The Low: El Gallito’s Carnitas wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. The pork was a bit dry and lacked flavor, even with the chopped onions and red salsa I put on top. I would have used the green salsa they provided, but it was frozen….so I couldn’t.
Taco Sinaloa #3’s version of the Buche taco started off well because some of the pieces were crispy and it was packed with flavor. The second bite I took felt like I was chomping down onto a soft salt lick doohickey. I could literally feel my brain fluids be sucked out by all the sodium that was in that taco.
The Pastor that people raved about on Yelp was a complete disappointment. I ordered two of them but only managed to finish one. My biggest problem with it was that it just tasted like bland pieces of pork puffs that got re-hydrated by the amount of oil used to cook it. I was expecting chucks of pork that were sliced off a gyro looking hunk of mystery meats….but got mushy blobs instead.
Would you come back again? Yes to El Gallito and no to Taco Sinaloa #3. I just hope I went to Taco Sinaloa on a bad day because their Buche could have been my favorite
The Skinny: The Fuku Burger Truck is burger heaven on wheels. I’m not much of a burger eater, but everyone kept raving about it, so I had to try it. The truck is decorated with all these cartoons of the owners and the Fuku Girl. You’d have to see it to believe it. When chatting up the owner, he told me that everything is freshly made. All the ingredients are local. They go to the meat market every day and season the beef. Once they’re out, they’re out.
The High: Everyone kept talking about the Tamago burger so that’s the first one I tried. The first bite into this burger it was an explosion of flavors. I had a foodgasm eating this burger. All the flavors just went well together. It consisted of the fuku burger, fried egg, fried string onions, topped off with teriyaki and furikake. The naga dog is a great alternative if you’re not in the mood for a burger. It consists of a spicy link topped with home-made pickled daikon relish and grilled kim chee. Drizzled with wasabi mayo and kabayaki sauces then finished with hari nori. Colin said it’s like the Jap dog in Vancouver. Makes me miss Vancouver lol. Another alternative would be the Katsu Burger. It’s panko crusted chicken with shredded cabbage finished with wasabi mayo, & katsu sauce. I like to liven up by having the Katsu burger Karai style. Karai style is everything on the Karai burger replacing the fuku patty with the katsu patty. The Karai burger which consists of the fuku patty, with sliced cucumber, lettuce, avocado cream, finished with spicy mayo and habanero kabayaki. This is my new favorite from the Fuku truck. They’re garlic fries are awesome too. It comes with a sweet ketchup sauce & crack sauce. OMG this cracksauce is amazing and IS like crack, you can’t get enough of it. They’ve added new items such as the local moco, it’s like your Hawaiian favorite but with a fuku patty. Mac salad and special burgers once in a while. All of it was mouthwatering. For a girl that can’t sit in a dirty restaurant and eat (cuz we all know the dirtier the restaurant the better the food) , questioning whether these trucks are clean enough to not give me tummy rumbles…this truck gets two thumbs up from me.
The Low: My friend had the buta burger which consisted of the fuku patty, miso-glazed apple wood smoked bacon, american cheese, pickled ginger, + Japanese bbq sauce. It was a little greasy for me. My friend seemed to like it, definitely flavorful, but anything with ginger that I can taste will make it a low for me. The other burger I wasn’t too fond of was the Kinoko burger which is their mushroom burger. It consists of the fuku patty, grilled shitake mushrooms, ginger……and I’m just going to stop there because again, it has ginger :). Not the type of mushroom burger I’d like, but I know a lot of other people that enjoy it. So to each their own. Another low is that they’re not always in the same place every day. You have to go to website and check the schedule. Now that they’ve got all the legal stuff together they are a little more consistent in their locations. My favorite locations are Chinatown & the one on Flamingo + Decatur (they’re all close to my house) 😉
Would you come back again? Absolutely! I try to expose as many of my friends to this truck as possible. Also the Fuku staff are all really nice and down to earth. This alone would make me want to keep searching them out. The Fuku truck is like having a drug addiction, except it’s a food addiction, when they were on hiatis for a week I was having withdrawls. Horrible right? Believe me though,the minute I bit into that burger mmmMmMmm my mouth waters thinking about it right now. If it wasn’t so late in the evening I’d drive the 10 minutes to go get it to go right now.

The Skinny: The Burger Bus can be found in Santa Barbara, California and yes, the truck is an actual school bus. Owners Cheryl and Michael Gardner rely on local produce and ingredients from the farmer’s market and uses 100% grass fed free range beef from Shalhoob Meat Company.
The High: I ordered the CB&J burger which is a beef patty topped with melted cheese, onions, a seasonal habanero jelly, and sandwiched between a toasted ciabatta. From the moment they put the meat on the grill I could tell I was going to enjoy it even though the concept of a Cheeseburger with jelly seems kind of odd. Usually, most burger restaurants don’t season their meat at all, but from the Burger Bus, I could smell the black pepper (and probably salt if it had a smell) perfuming the fresh air . When I took a bite of the burger itself, the play on the savory with the sweet reminded me of eating a peppery steak dinner with a side of spicy Chinese food. The CB&J was tasty to say the least and the beef was beefy, however I didn’t really notice the cheese.
With that burger, I also got fried pickles which came out looking Chicken McNuggets but tasted like dilled zucchini. The zing of the crispy pickles was balanced out nicely with the complimentary ranch dressing the Burger Bus Lady gave me. They were simply delicious.
The Low: The Burger Bus is in Santa Barbara and I live in LA, so I can’t try the rest of their burgers.
Would you come back again? Only if I’m in Santa Barbara, but even still, it’s worth seeking out if you’re in the area.
