The Skinny: Lucky Noodle King, sans the cheesy name, as got to have some of the best Chinese noodles I’ve ever eaten. They’re located off of Delmar in SGV(aka new Chinatown). My close friend Jesse Duron(GM of the new Miku Restaurant In Downtown LA, projected to open early summer across from the Standard Hotel) suggested that we go check the place out. He read about it on Eater LA and the place did no disappoint
The High: I ordered the Beef & Tendon Noodle soup…it was definitely super tastey. I actually think it might give sue’s Kitchen’s version a run for their money. The soup was just the right amount of heat and if you wanted to add more there was of course the Chinese hot sauce with pepper and hot oil. Jesse got the dan dan noodles which area a traditional Sichuan style of noodles. It consists of a spicy sauce containing preserved vegetables (often including zha cai, 榨菜, lower enlarged mustard stem, or ya cai, 芽菜, upper mustard stems), chili oil, Sichuan pepper, minced pork, and scallions served over noodles. –according to wikipedia. These noodles were some of the best I’ve ever had in my entire life! We also had the Green Onion Pancake which was a great side dish to compliment the noodles that we were eating.
The Low: Do not go here on a Hot day. We went on a day that it was near a 100 degrees out and….NO AC+HOT SOUP+SPICY = SWEATING BULLETS. Also if you get the dan dan noodles…eat that after you eat the other stuff because the flavor is so overpowering it makes everything else taste almost bland!
Would you come back? YES! I’d like to try everything there!

Behind the scenes with Khai , LMFAO, and Quest Crew.
“Every day I’m shuffling!” Haha this catchy tune has got everyone at mainstream clubs doin the Melbourne shuffle…which is a dance style that people used to only see at Hardstyle music events or Massive events like Electric Daisy Carnival. LMFAO and the Party Rock Crew have made this their signature style and have kids all over Hollywood Shuffling. Personally I think the dance looks a little silly but our boys from Quest Crew can make anything look good(Hok did the choreography for the new LMFAO music video), and Choreographer/videographer/socialite extraordinaire KHAI T. NGUYEN perfectly captures all the hard work that went into making the music video! Take a LOOK! Watch the LMFAO’s Music Video here.
The Skinny: Freds 62 is one of those joints that you first go to because you’re with your drunk friends….and someone says…HEY let’s go to FREDS! You probably went clubbing in Hollywood and its one of the closest joints that has good food and has a lot of street parking nearby. For a few years I was going to friends at night and only at night until I moved out to Los Feliz. I stopped going at night and then started going during the day, and guess what everything doesn’t always taste better when you’re drunk! Actually FREDS during the day is WAYYYYYY Better.
The High: I’ve tried a ton of sandwiches and breakfast items at this local favorite and I have to say that I love the burger’s here and the Cali California Omelet…oh yeah the Eggs Benedict is pretty amazing too. The Burger Medium Rare is perfect and not too messy unless you get avocado like I did( In that case it becomes a slippery mess of green goodness). The Cali California Omelet has avocado in it also and its just all around awesome…with savory chicken sausage and the sun dried tomatoes are a perfect addition. If you don’t like goat cheese you can ask for something else. This place is always busy and it has a great vintage diner decor. There are also “Patio” aka sidewalk tables that are nice to sit at in case you have a dog, want a smoke, or have a friend that’s about to puke in the gutter. Fred’s is open pretty much all day and all night so if all the markets exploded in the area….you’d still be able to get some food at anytime as long FREDS stays open.
The Low: Honestly the food during the day is WAY better, and well I guess it is true…making drunk for food for drunk people is probably the way they thing about cooking after 2AM in this place….after all no one is ugly after 2AM and nothing tastes bad either. The downside to this place is that…IT IS SUPER POPULAR. Anytime of the day there is a wait….so be prepared to chill out for a bit or jump back in the car for PLAN B if you go during peak times.
Oh Yeah! TRY THE BOSSA NOVA WAFFLE….its Mmm Mmmm GOOoooood
This video is from last Friday in Hollywood at even called CONTROL@AVALON. My buddy Ryan Jaso run’s the night with Mr White and they do a great job bringing through some seriously sick special guests….DEADMAU5 popped up from under a bedsheet ghost costume to rock some tunes during Tommy Lee and DJ Aero’s set. Pretty amazing being that he’s playing this weekend for 100 bucks a ticket at the new Belasco nightclub in Downtown LA. Hmmm Ghosts make’s me think of PacMan….makes me hungry….wakka wakka.
The Skinny: Ever Since I was a little kid and first moved to Torrance I’ve become increasingly attached to this Amazing Italian Deli. The delicatessen has tons of Italian meats, cheeses, pastas, sauces, etc. And they serve some of the most legit sandwiches in Southern California. Giuliano’s has it it all; whether you’re looking to get lunch or buy some ingredients for an amazing Italian home cooked dinner…
The High: Since 6 years old I’ve been obsessed with their Torpedo Sandwich. It’s an amazingly perfect balance of Italian Salamis and Meats with Cheese, Lettuce, Pepperoncinis, and Fresh Baked bread…YUMMM, The meat is cut perfect and melts in your mouth as it mixes with the cheese and Italian dressing(that you need to add) as you take each bite. It’s comfort food…it’s gourmet comfort food I guess, because this definitely ain’t some plain ‘ol Bologna sandwich. I Feel Strongly that the key to this sandwich is in the Bread….and yes the bread is amazing and can be purchased in store and even delivered if you have a business that needs amazing breads.
The Low: The Torpedo Sandwich is amazing. It’s the only thing I order here and I’ve tried other stuff there which is also really good, but there is nothing quite like a good torpedo. I’d say the worst thing about this place is that it’s in Torrance and I live in LA now….and have yet to find an Italian Deli that can match the Zen like balance of this Sandwich…So I can only satisfy this craving when I visit friends and family out there.
Would I go to again? I’ve been going here since I was 6….nuff said.

Just to wash the hippie burrito out my system….I need to listen to some Bassnectar in Dubstep definition. I love the pixies…ever since Fight Club I’ve always associated this song with catastrophic destruction.
The Skinny: I’ve been hearing about this place for years and mostly from all my UCSB friends. Being that we live in the HUB of great Mexican Taquerias you can understand this Angelino’s Skeptical outlook on the hype aurounding the Freebirds burrito. Walking up to the place you could hear a familiar rock tune and you could smell a familiar smell of Carne Asada and other Grilled Meats. Walking in you see the Chopper hanging from the ceiling and random foil Sculptures that looked like a two year old went postal on box of Reynolds. As you walk to the counter to order you realize you’re in something that resembles a Chipotle on Acid.
The High: High is right…I could definitely see stoners, potheads, green fiends, etc…going crazy at this spot and ordering a 15 dollar burrito, and yes it is possible to make your burrito 15 dollars. I had the Carne Asada and it was pretty tender and there tons of options which may or may not be a good thing.
The Low: The Tomatillo “Hot Sauce” was ummmm…not hot…especially for a place that looked like Dog the Bounty Hunter rolled his pseudo badassness all over it. The burritos are decent…but my biggest complaint is that you pay 8 dollars for a burrito and you don’t even get a drink or CHIPS!? On top of that I don’t really enjoy watching the workers shoot my guac and sour cream all over my burrito with a calking gun (GROSS).
Would I go to again? I’d probably give it a second try at another location to see if it was any different…

The Skinny: Hoy Ka is the new name for the Legendary Thai Noodle House ORD NOODLE. The place is in the heart of Thai Town in Hollywood and its probably one of the most authentic restaurants for Thai in all of LA. I’ve been coming to this haunt for years and just because the name’s changed, the food and quality has definitely stayed the same!
The High: I ordered the classic Hoy Ka Noodle Soup (chicken version) and my buddy ordered the Roast Duck Noodle Soup. Both were savory and both dishes Spice level were Magma/Volcanic. You can choose to get the noodles either, skinny, skinny flat, or the wide flat noodles! I chose the wide flat noodles and they were amazing. The soup is also great for hangovers in case you were wondering. Add some of the Green Chili sauce or pickled chilis for extra heat if you want to sweat out all those toxins from a night out drinking in Hollywood.
The Low: What can I say…there is almost nothing wrong with this place! We went in and it was packed at 1pm and they actually had the AC on which is a plus since the old owner of ORD used to never turn that on! The bad thing was that they ran out of diet coke and everyone knows I’m addicted to that stuff so I had to settle for a Thai Iced Tea which was decent.
Would you come back again? UM….YES…I will continue to eat at this spot at least a few times a month…and will continue promote them for free to friends because
1. they’re freakin good
2. they’re freakin cheap
3. they’re as authentic as you can get according to House of Glam Rep, DAVID CHOU
